Heading up the Road Prong Trail.
Emerging at the junction with the Appalachian Trail and Clingmans Dome Road. You have some options if you want to explore the area.
Acidic red sediment from Anakeesta rock washes into the Road Prong. The acidic nature of the red sediment could cause problems for the aquatic life that make their home there. This is the result of the landslides, mud slides, and log jams that have happened in this area.
Log jam, land slide, mud slide. It's a mess, and the trail now bypasses it making it easier for to navigate the downed trees.
