When descending Carris Hill, be sure to scramble up a huge rock outcrop to take in this view of Wanaque Reservoir.
Norvin Green State Forest offers plenty of adventure for those on foot, but extraordinary days can be marked when the sky is clear and New York City's Skyline is in view.
Climbing Carris Hill is strenuous, but if you stop along the route you can zoom in from 30 miles to see Manhattan's Freedom Tower.
