TV and telecommunication towers sit atop Mount Alava, as well as the remains of the old tram station.
Flowers bloom along the trail and add a little bit of color to the lush green landscape.
Looking across the bay, you can see Matafao Peak towering over Pago Pago.
The final push to the summit includes a climb up a series of steps. Some of the steps were in need of repair, so test the step before you put your full weight on it.
The last half mile to a mile is pretty exposed as the forest opens up around the trail, so proper sun protection is recommended.
