Runner Notes
The top 1/4 of Goat Trail is steep with tough footing.
Description
The Goat Trail can be done in either direction and has two neighborhood access points: 2nd Street (at the west end of Hawthorne Ave.) and 3rd Street (at the end of Forest Ave.).
The trail climbs steeply at first from the Boulder neighborhoods, but then mellows considerably as it becomes an old dirt road traveling across benches. Wind up through scrubby meadow and sparse trees. Once the trail narrows and turns west into a steep canyon, things get serious. The grade increases and the skinny trail becomes precarious with a few washouts and boulders to navigate. Pop out at at the top where a lovely bench sits next to the
Sanitas Valley Trail and affords good views over Boulder.
