Runner Notes
The packed dirt surface is smooth and easy footing.
Description
Lower Fireweed is an enjoyable walk in either direction, and is often combined with
Upper Fireweed to make a mellow loop. Head east on a service road from the Eagles Nest gondola area past the ropes courses and tubing hill, initially following signs for Berry Picker. When it is time to turn off the service road and onto trail, there will be signs designating the start of Fireweed.
Lower Fireweed gently transverses multiple ski runs covered with wildflowers, always with the Gore Range as a spectacular backdrop. The shady forested sections are carpeted with lush eye-popping green foliage and interpretive signs line the trail. End by returning via the
Upper Fireweed trail, or taking the short pitch uphill under the Gondola One line to the mid-Vail area. Note: bikes are not allowed on this trail.
