Runner Notes
This is a steep and fast way to the top of
Red Rocks, but it'll be a challenge for most to run the entire way. A great trail for hill repeats and interval training.
Description
The
Red Rocks Spur is really a conglomerate of braided spurs that work their way up to, around and down from the beautiful red rock formations in this area. This is just the "main" spur that travels from
Red Rocks Trail at Settler's Park to Sunshine Canyon Road.
From the Settler's Park Trailhead, start up
Red Rocks Trail and stay right to get onto the Spur. The trail quickly becomes steep and eroded as you make your way up the fall line. Work your way over water bars and loose stones until you reach the viewpoint and take in the great vista to the east. From here you can pick from a host of different trails that lead onto the rocks, continue on the main spur to Sunshine Canyon, or head back to Settler's Park.
Flora & Fauna
This trail ventures through some pine forest but sees mostly open exposure and sage brush vegitation
