Description

In actuality, the Valley Trail is a 40 mile long collection of Grand Teton trails spanning from Teton Village to String Lake. This segment, however, begins at the Taggart Lake Trail and terminates at the Teton Village Trail. The trail closely flanks the base of the Teton Range and skirts the Phelps Lake shoreline.

The first three miles of this trail are easy-going with very mild elevation changes. Just after three miles, the trail begins to climb at an easy grade to a highpoint above Phelps Lake. From here, Valley trail descends some steeper switchbacks to the valley just north of the lake, before ascending the ridge to the west of Phelps Lake. The trail concludes with a descent to the Granite Canyon Trail.
