Runner Notes
After the flood in 2013, this was the only way to get to Thunder Lake because the bridge was blown out at
Ouzel Falls. I just looked and the bridge was completed last year so you can do a lollipop loop if desired.
Description
The North St. Vrain Fire Trail is a good option to take if you want to cut a few miles off your day, or if you have already seen
Ouzel Falls and just wish to bypass, or make a lollipop route with the
Wild Basin Trail.
From the Wild Basin Trailhead, you'll need to head out a little less then 1.5 miles on the
Wild Basin Trail before turning right onto the North St. Vrain Fire Trail. The trail switches between "flatter" dirt portions to more technical/rockier sections. The route is mainly an uphill climb, ending at the
Thunder Lake Trail.
Continue along this trail to its end where you'll meet up with the
Thunder Lake Trail.
In order to get back to your car either take the same trail back or create the lollipop and turn south towards
Ouzel Falls.
