Runner Notes

This trail is rough and rutted - it's not easy to run the steep parts of this trail.

Description

Starting from the junction of Fire Lane and the Sky trail, the path contours a hillside for a gentle, short ascent before heading steeply down a ridge line. The trail here is deeply rutted by horse traffic, so watch your footing. Enjoy a bit of a respite on the level section that tracks high above the rushing Santa Maria Creek.

Head up a mellow incline, up and over into the next valley then downhill to a junction with the Laguna Trail. Stay on Fire Lane heading south through open scrub. Views of the Pacific encourage your progress to the Fire Lane terminus at a T intersection with Coast Trail - North. From here it is easy to access the Coast Camp and Santa Maria Beach via Santa Maria Beach access. Note: bikes are not allowed on the Fire Lane Trail.

Flora & Fauna

Pine, huckleberries, blackberries, ferns, ceanothus, Indian paintbrush and lupine.
