Description
The McCurdy trail starts from Highway 1, just north of Woodville (also known as Dogtown). This town had several lumber mills during the logging period in this valley. The McCurdy trail ascends steeply up a ridge with deep Cronin Gluch on the east and more gentle hillsides to the west. Although much of this trail is under tree cover, there are sections of open grassland that allow views of the Olema Valley, which sits atop the San Andreas Fault Zone. The trail joins
Bolinas Ridge after one final challenging pitch.
When choosing between
Randall and McCurdy trails here are some points to consider: McCurdy has fewer switchbacks, more views and covers 1317 feet in elevation change in 1.9 miles.
Randall is forested and therefore shady, and covers 945 feet elevation change over 1.7 miles. Most users report that McCurdy "feels" steeper than
Randall. Note: bikes are allowed on this trail.
