Description
This somewhat unremarkable trail takes you from Zion's east mesa to
East Rim Trail, snaking its way through dense forest as it goes. Though not a sought after run compared to the other trails around it, East Mesa does provide great views of the Pink Cliffs and Brian Head Peak (11,306'). Additionally, you'll get great views of Bulloch Gulch to the north, its surrounding canyon, and have access to one of the best views in the park from
Observation Point Trail.
Starting from
East Rim Trail, East Mesa climbs very steeply, switchbacking multiple times until it eventually contours south of a small mesa. Once the trail levels off, all of the hard stuff is done. Run a short ways north and you'll pass
Observation Point Trail on your left. Be sure not to miss this must-see trail as it's a short connector leading to some of the best views in Zion.
Once past
Observation Point Trail, follow East Mesa east as it winds its way down the park's eastern mesa at an easy grade. Eventually you'll connect with Fir Rd., a dirt road just to the east of the park.
