Description
There can be heavy equestrian traffic on the bottom half of this trail. It starts at the East parking lot as you travel through two horse gates - please respect the horses. After the 2nd horse gate the trail becomes very rocky.
The gradual climb from the rock garden to the stream crossing is very heavily trafficked by hikers, bikers and horses.
Once at the stream, you'll start a 1700+ foot vertical ascent over packed red rock, loose hard pack, loose rock, gravel, and finally dirt with roots. If runed from start to finish, this is a strenuous trail due to the unrelenting steep grade and loose nature of the trail surface. There are plenty of singletrack alternatives, but this is the most direct way to the back of the park.
