Limited parking and room for turning around at trailhead. Pets and bicycles are not permitted on trails but are allowed on the washed out road.
Runner Notes
There is a lot of downfall on the
Constance Pass Trail that is not navigable. The River Trail is a mellow, steady climbing trail that is a favorite of mine for Marathon and 50K training.
Description
This well-maintained trail travels through an ancient montane forest as it trends uphill at moderate grades. To get to the trailhead, follow the
Dosewallips Rd. Trail from the washout for 5.5 miles to the ranger station. If you choose to run the entirety of this trail, you'll reach Hayden Pass. The pass usually melts out in early July. Lower sections are snow-free much of the year but often have snow in winter and spring.
About two miles from the ranger station, you'll encounter a junction with the
West Fork Dosewallips River Trail followed shortly thereafter by the
Constance Pass Trail. Continue straight through both intersections to stay on the Dosewallips River Trail. Although this trail might not be as popular as many other trails in the Park, the scenery is still breathtaking. On the plus side, this trail sees far less traffic than the Park's most popular trails.
Flora & Fauna
Fern, a lot of moss over trees, and rocks, cedars, pines, elk, bear and deer.
