Overview

This is a family-friendly excursion to a beautifully scenic pebble beach. Check the tides before setting out to time your trip for when there is shoreline to explore.

Runner Notes

Muddy with a creek crossing.

Description

From the end of the Oil City Road and parking area, find the trail heading west along the north bank of the Hoh River. Close to the beginning of the trail, cross a stream and surmount a small, muddy cliff area. This is the main obstacle along this trail, expect easier going afterwards.

Cover mostly level ground through coastal wetlands. Arrive at the beach and clamber around logs and driftwood to the shore. Views are great up and down the coast with Destruction Island prominent to the south. A trail continues north up the coastline but the Oil City Trail as described here is an out-and-back from the parking lot to the beach.

Flora & Fauna

Bald eagles, seals, pelicans, sea birds. Salmon berries, ferns, mushrooms.
