Runner Notes
This is must-detour while trail running Seven Lakes Basin. It serves as an amazing destination to refuel on your ultra route around the loop. Watch for goats, rocks, and other hikers memorized by the jaw-dropping views.
Description
Lunch Lake is one of the favorite camping areas while exploring the Seven Lakes Basin region of Olympic. While the trail is just a short mile off the main loop trail, the views are staggeringly gorgeous and everyone needs to take this side trip. The path drops sharply from the main trail, but is gentle enough that your knees won't be sore while working your way back up. If anything, the descent will be largely ignored, as the views will leave you speechless and in awe.
The lake itself isn't huge and is hardly the most impressive body of water in Olympic. Instead, it is yet another shimmering jewel along the Seven Lakes Basin Trail. It is also one of the more awesome backcountry campsites along the loop and an excellent place to see mountain goats and the occasional bear.
Flora & Fauna
