Description
From the Sunrise Point parking area, this trail ascends gradually for 0.5 miles and then steeply for another 0.51 miles to gain the ridge above the road. Once atop the ridge, the trail undulates as it traverses to the west passing below Deer and Antler Peaks along the way.
Views of the White River Valley, Rainier and lush green surroundings abound. Eventually, the
Sourdough Ridge Connector will spur off to the left (south) followed shortly thereafter by another
Sourdough Ridge Connector. Both trails lead to the Sunrise parking, camping and visitor areas.
At mile 3.3, the
Huckleberry Creek Trail will branch off to the right (north) and descend steeply from the ridge. The final stretch of Sourdough Ridge Trail descends and contours to Frozen Lake. From here, you have many options: take the
Wonderland Trail back to Sunrise, follow
Mount Fremont Trail to the fire tower, or wander up to the
Burroughs Mountain Trail via the
North Burroughs Mountain Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Sourdough Ridge is dominated by subalpine meadows that are ablaze with wildflowers in the summer.
