This run starts at the Shingletown parking area and can be accessed from Mountain Road off of 45. Expect a sustained climb with some switchbacks, followed by an equally long descent through the forest.

There is a small stream crossing, and sections of the trail can be very rocky.

Lots of rocks. Nice overlook on Bald Knob Ridge Trail.

This is a relatively easy loop. Start on the Lower Trail and travel alongside a small stream, with tunnels of rhododendron. Eventually, turn left onto Maguire Trail and switchback uphill to the Bald Knob Ridge Trail. Turn right on that trail enjoying the varying landscapes before topping out just under four miles from the start.

Then turn right onto the Green Shoot trail connector. You'll exit that trail and turn right onto Lower Trail to go back to the access point.

Make sure you take a moment to listen to the babbling water, and soak in the scent of the hemlock and pine trees that surround you. You'll even pass the ruins of an old stone house or mill!

Mountain laurel is abundant when first entering at Shingletown.
