Description
The trailhead is very well marked. There are two trails that split from the same trailhead. Stop by the headquarters to get an information book and see the museum. The trail is maintained but not frequently.
This is a fairly popular spot on the weekends and school vacation times so if you visit during one of those times, expect families and crowds. On the way up the trail, there are multiple game trails and side trails to explore, but don't get lost. There are great opportunities for some rock hopping and pictures. Once at the top, there are some great views available of the refuge.
Either follow the trail back or make your own trail back but if taking an alternate trail be sure to have a plan and research the terrain first. Enjoy your time at the summit and explore around before heading down. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has many other trails as well.
Flora & Fauna
Rattlesnakes are native to the area as well as other species of snakes.
