Overview

This route includes the Panola Mountain/Alexander Lake Trail.
It goes over a paved, well-maintained trail through the countryside. You'll share it with light traffic - bikers, runners, and walkers.

Need to Know

Admission to the Park is $5. There are restrooms at the trailhead and Alexander Lake.

Runner Notes

Come prepared for hills, and hot, sunny days in the summer.

Description

This is one of my favorite sections of this PATH system to run. With the Panola Mountain Outlook along the route, as well as some very interesting rock formations, there is plenty to see. The state park also has a nature center, with specimens and descriptions of insects birds, reptiles and mammals, that can be seen along the trail (there are a bunch).

Beginning at Panola Mtn State Park, and winding through Alexander Lake Loop, this section of the trail is connected to Arabia Mtn. Trail, and Rockdale River Trail, and can continue much farther north or south if a longer distance is desired.

The lake area also has restrooms available. If you are into it, there are SUPs and kayaks available to rent. More info here: gastateparks.org/PanolaMoun…

This segment winds around scenic Alexander Lake, rocky outcroppings, and beautiful pine forest.

As stated previously, wildlife is present. Prepare to see snakes, bugs galore, and all matter of small, furry critters. Deer often seem so used to people that they will linger in curiosity as you run past them.

Flora & Fauna

Plenty of pine and deciduous trees, mossy rocks, and lichen.
