Runner Notes

There are some steep sections to climb, stay on the trail. There is no better way to see Monument Canyon than running it!

Description

From the trailhead, stay to the right at the fork, the left goes to Monument Valley Trail. About half a mile along, there will be a drop down through some technical terrain before heading into the canyon.

The trail leaves the canyon floor and heads up to the left heading south. There is a lot of elevation gain heading towards the trail merge by the spire. Many parts of this ascent will have some loose gravel and caution should be taken in the technical areas. While the trend is an ascent the are still some rollers through this trail.

The last 0.5 miles is fairly steady and a small climb compared to the climbing that preceded it. Once at the trail merge, there are two options on Monument Valley Trail, turn right and enjoy the twists and turns or go left and return to the trailhead. There is always the option of turning around and making it an out and back.

Flora & Fauna

Jackrabbits can be seen as well as lizards and deer in the cool morning or late evening.
