Description

This run can be started from either the Goose Creek trailhead (easier, less scenic) or the Chestnut Mountain (also called Frog Rock) trailhead (steeper, more scenic).

From the Chestnut trailhead, you'll almost immediately begin climbing switchbacks. Your heart rate rises with your level of excitement. Soon, views of the Frog Rock area (popular for rock climbing) open up and the sounds of the highway and train recede.

Once atop Chestnut Mountain the millions of acres of the Absaroka Beartooth and Yellowstone ecosystem lies beyond to the east. Either continue running further and make this a car or bike-shuttled loop combined with Bear Canyon or Goose Creek, or turn around and head back down the hill from where you came.
