Description
This high mountain pass frees of snow in mid-summer and is a high alpine connector between the
East Fork Mill Creek and
West Fork Boulder River trails. The trail is a steady climb between the two drainages, but views of the surrounding high peaks certainly outshine those of the drainages in places. Also of note is the very short side trip to
Crystal Cave. It's just a short distance up from Mill Creek.
This is some raw and rugged country that is not often visited. However, you'll encounter other users at each end of the trail coming from the associated trailheads. Once on the high pass proper you'll have the place to yourself.
The price of this solitude is work, however. Since this is a mountain pass, there is a lot of climbing to the high point followed by some knee-pounding descent back to the drainage on the other side. Get your exercise on and go get 'er done!
