Description
Lenape Lane begins 500 feet down Terrace Road, just beyond and to the left (south) of the Mohonk Mountain House gatehouse. Lenape Lane begins its meanderings through pitch pine and hemlock forest, running downhill most of its length. The first intersection is where
Woodside Trail (blue blazes) merges in from the left, approximately 3/4 mile from the start.
Continue south on Lenape Lane. After another quarter mile Oakwood Drive will tee in from the right. Continue south through the forest.
Farm Road will tee in from the right. This will lead you to Duck Pond.
Farm Road runs with Lenape Lane for a short distance, then tees off right again. Continue straight on Lenape Lane. You'll next cross the Catskill Aqueduct, which provides water to New York City.
Note that the Aqueduct is off limits for exploration. Pine Road crosses Lenape Lane.
The trail crosses through some small streams and marshy areas, then it crosses Kleine Kill. At this point, it opens out into a meadow. Enjoy the bucolic sites and sounds of horses, corrals, and barns as you begin running up a slight rise to where Lenape Lane ends at Butterville Road. This intersection is one of the best views in the Gunks. I often pull over here when driving home from New Paltz and enjoy the view for a few moments before continuing on.
