The purple loop trailhead is from the paved road/walking path near the parking lot for the mansion.

The trail rolls through some valleys and climbs over some hills, but nothing too tough. The trail is dirt singletrack, pretty smooth with a few pockets of mud, mainly in the valleys and only after rain. You'll cross a gas line gap in the trees, but other than that you'll be under canopy of tree cover the entire time.
