This loop links together two short suburban trails (Black Sage and Golf View) that weave in and out of the residential area surrounding the Aviara Oaks Middle School. Overall, the loop is about 50/50 trail and paved road.

The surface is hard packed sand/dirt that can be slippery on the descents.

Traveling clockwise, the trail has quick turns and short climbs until you hit Aviara Parkway. Then dig in for a long climb before you dive back into the dirt trail. Parking is at the Aviara Community Park which adds about 0.25 miles to the listed mileage.

Trailhead: Exit the I-5 in Carlsbad at Poinsettia. Head east for about 2 miles. Turn left on Ambrosia and follow into the parking area.

Most of the trail is surrounded by the typical coastal SoCal scrub forest. Watch out for snakes.
