This is a rolling paved trail that basically circles the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. On the north side, you do have some options for horse trails to give you a bit of a true trail experience. You do spend a bit of time on the streets to complete the loop, but it's a small price to pay for a great loop.

Since it does go through some residential areas, there are some places to stop. Plus you can stop at one of the two nature centers along the way--they have water, too.

This is a paved trail, but there are horse trails that border along the north side of the preserve so you can make it a bit more on trail if you would like.

This is a great run in this part of the city, not far from the airport. If you're in town on a long layover, get out there and run this, or at least a part of it. It is very well marked and follows the edges of the nature preserve, which makes it a great place to get off the city streets. This run gives you views, trails, and wonderfully smooth paths. It can get a little tricky through the streets, but if you just hug the preserve, you'll do just fine.
