From the trailhead, punch it up numerous switchbacks. If you can hike this whole thing you are in good shape, because it's steep!l

Ute Trail delivers full value in just one mile. It ends at an overlook which consists of a break in the dense trees and a small plateau/rock outcrop (careful footing is advised here as there is exposure and serious fall potential). Enjoy a stunning panorama of the hustle and bustle of Aspen over 1,000 feet below you!

You can continue higher if you wish. Ajax Trail picks up from Ute Trail, going the whole way to the top of Ajax (a.k.a. Aspen Mountain). If your timing is right in the summer months, you can take the gondola down Ajax and walk back to the trailhead.
