Description
This is the section of the Tuscarora Trail (TT) from Waggoners Gap in the west to Sterretts Gap in the east. From the west, the trail starts at the Audubon Hawk Watch parking lot. A short side trail leads from the TT up talus slopes to overlook with good views south across the Cumberland Valley.
Past the Hawk Watch, the trail enters the F.J. Reineman Wildlife sanctuary and proceeds east along the northern bench of the mountain. This section of trail is particularly rocky.
The trail eventually comes to a junction with old Longs Gap Road and bears north onto in and descends (to the south, the road leads a short distance to good views of Cumberland Valley). Near the base of the mountain, the TT bears east off-road and ascends back to the northern bench of the mountain.
Just before bearing north and descending along the power line cut, the trail passes a talus slope with good views to the south. At the base of the mountain, the trail bears east of the power line cut onto dirt road near a cabin and proceeds to PA-34 (Spring Road). The trail then bears south on a road and ascends along the shoulder to Sterretts Gap.
