The first half of the trail is mostly along an old stone-paved mule path, with lots of stairs, and the second half is in the forest - watch out for rocks and roots on this part.

To reach the trailhead, follow the main road of Manarola up to the resident parking area, and look for the trail marker on the right. An old mule path leads out of Manarola, past vegetable gardens and rustic cottages, with Groppo River on the left.

At the intersection with the provincial road, cross the road on the pedestrian crosswalk, then follow the trail on the left. When the trail joins the road, stay to the left side of the road until the trail marker at the base of the stairway. The stairs continue until Volastra, with olive groves lining the path on both sides.

Once you reach the small village of Volastra, turn right and follow the narrow street through the village to the parking area. Cross the provincial road, then continue straight up the road until it curves and widens, then follow the marker on the left to the trail. The singletrack through olive trees turns to forest, and the trail continues through the forest until the intersection with Trail AV5T.

Along the way you will see vegetable gardens, vineyards, and olive trees, then Mediterranean scrub and a forest of chestnuts, pine and holm oak. You may also see wild boar and deer in the forest.
