From the paved Park Entry Trail south of the parking lots, head east toward the river. The trail loops over and back from a lookout spot, only to then turn south for a bit then head back east.

The second mile starts by crossing the road to Group Campsite #2. From there pass by some cabins and cross the road to Group Campsite #3. Pass along behind a couple yurts and eventually end along the south edge of the South River Trail.

Typical prairie grasses, wildflowers and small creatures scuttle just out of sight.
