Runner Notes
There is some scrambling along the ridge and the overlook at the end is surrounded by high cliffs.
Description
A few dozen yards past the split for
Star Gap Ridge, there is another old road on the left side of
Tunnel Ridge Road North. Before the road was closed to vehicular traffic this was where the "View of Star Gap Arch" was located, though the view corridor has grown up in recent years you can still catch a glimpse of the ridgetop arch if you are determined.
Turn off of
Tunnel Ridge Road North and follow the obvious trail along the top of the ridge. Take care in negotiating the rocky saddle and then enjoy easier running out the ridge, bearing right on the rounded knob for an open and exposed overlook.
The inspiring overlook is a rock climbing area known as Jailhouse Rock due to its proximity to Courthouse Rock across the valley.
Return via the same route. This trail can be combined with a loop of
Auxier Ridge Trail #204,
Auxier Branch Trail #203,
Tunnel Ridge Road North, and a shot out the
Star Gap Ridge for a nice long day of running.
