The Kennebec Mountain Run is fun, scenic 15-mile trail run through the La Plata Mountains, just west of Durango in southwest Colorado.

The run alternates directions each year. This description is moving clockwise. Start at La Plata City and follow La Plata Canyon Road for a little over 4 miles to its junction with the Columbus Basin Road (first aid station). Continue up La Plata Canyon Road as it starts to steepen and follow it to the notch at Kennebec Pass at a little over 7 miles (second aid station). From the notch, the road descends slightly and links up with a singletrack that goes around the east side of Snowstorm Peak and leads back down into Columbus Basin. Gain the Columbus Basin Road at a little past mile 10 (third aid station) and follow it back to its junction with the La Plata Canyon Road. Take a left (south) and continue back to La Plata City and the finish line.
