Runner Notes
Very hilly - hawk watch up the first big hill overlooking the highway. Nice views!
Description
The
Yellow Trail is very hilly starting from the parking lot. It goes up the first hill to the hawk watch overlook, then it heads down and up and down and up several times. The trail crosses seasonal streams and gullies throughout these undulations, so prepare for your feet to get wet. The final downhill takes you into the lowest point in the park where you can stay on the
Yellow Trail (east side) or take the
Orange Trail (west side) of the creek that runs north into Howland's Lake. It connects with several white trails along the way that tie it back to the blue and red trails.
The end of the
Yellow Trail joins up with the end of the red trail to loop back to the start (via the red trail). There is also a BRLA
Connector Trail that leads out onto Sarles Rd but it is pretty sketchy at points (overgrown) with a few trees down that haven't been cleared from heavy storms. Explore that trail in winter, or be sure to wear long pants other times of the year to avoid the thistles and nettles.
