Runner Notes
This particular section of trail is one of the primary sections of one of southern Wiscsonsin's most popular trail races, called the Blue Mound Trail Run.
Description
This trail offers a lot of what many runners are looking for, with plenty of respectable climbs and descents, but which are generally not overly technical, so one can break quite the sweat going up ascents and can descend quickly without getting lost in the mental details of safe footing.
The scenery is fantastic year round. The fall colors can be magic. The dead quiet of winter is another great time to hit the trails here. Of course, summer is great too, but note that this trail is an especially popular mountain biking trail during this season, so please be respectful of bikers in this section of this state park.
Also, sometimes it's best to avoid this trail in the early spring, or whenever the snow pack disappears, as the trail can become very muddy and imprints from users during this time can become a real headache and unnecessary hazard to bikers and other users later in the spring/summer.
