Runner Notes
When one reaches the Muir Woods National Monument expect huge crowds. Use this trail very early or during the off season. Otherwise you will have to step off the trail or slow down too many times for an enjoyable run.
Description
The Canopy Trail ascends to the eastern slope of the valley. This trail has switchbacks that make the climb much easier than other trails. You'll cross multiple bridges and be shaded most of the way up to the top. One will find that the footing is easy along most of the trail.
You can connect with the
Lost Trail to do a counter-clock loop down back into the valley floor for about a 2.5 mile outing, or go clockwise onto the
Panoramic Trail to begin a 3.4 mile loop. Either direction you choose to go, the trail and the views will be magnificent.
Many locals refer to this trail as the Ocean View Trail. There may still be signs with that designation.
