Description

Starting from the intersection of the Emery Path and Kurt Diederichs Climb, the Schiff Path starts out deceptively gentle. As you head south across Dorr Mountain, you'll follow a series of long, gentle stretches. Through the trees there are glimpses of Frenchman Bay, the Porcupine Islands and the rounded peak of Champlain Mountain due east.

At the intersection of the Ladder Trail, however, the Schiff Path begins a sharp ascent to the summit. First you'll head up a series of impressive stone steps. Then the trees will thin out and you'll head up a series of exposed granite ledges. Keep your eyes out for the Bates cairns that mark the trail, and take time to enjoy the terrific views below. As you climb higher you'll be able to see Egg Rock Lighthouse peeking out from behind Champlain Mountain. The Schiff Path ends at the intersection of Dorr North Ridge Trail, which heads south to the summit of Dorr Mountain.
