Runner Notes
This is a major portion of the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon, and is a popular training location for participants.
Description
Leave the car behind and experience all that the coastline just south of the
Golden Gate Bridge has to offer. This trail meanders through a series of WWII bunkers, Cypress and Eucalyptus groves just above the ocean's edge. Experience fog, wind, ocean chill, as well as exceptional sunsets. This trail puts you right on the very edge of civilization. It is mostly singletrack except from the start at Baker Beach where it is doubletrack.
You'll most likely come across a runner or two who are training for the "Escape From Alcatraz" triathlon. In some places it is narrow so you'll have to turn sideways to let others come by. Being on the edge of the world doesn't make for a lot of room all the time.
