The
Whiskey Creek Alternate trail is only open to the public from September 1 to the end of February. It is managed by Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
Runner Notes
Mostly packed dirt with a few rocks and roots. This skinny overgrown trail has some erosion. Shade is available.
Description
Starting from the southeast corner of the Homestake K8 School's football field, this trail reaches a peaceful meadow at the junction of the
Whiskey Creek Trail. Run through aspen groves, brushy dense thickets, and open meadows on this well-packed dirt trail. There are not very many roots or rocks to contend with, but this path is often overgrown with grasses that obscure the already skinny trail. You'll get a few views west of Eagle Vail's hillsides and wildflowers make their home here. Good views of the striped rock mountains above Dowd junction greet you where the
Whiskey Creek Alternate Trail ends at its junction with the main
Whiskey Creek Trail.
Note: this is a multi-use trail so expect mountain bike traffic. It is a good idea to wear some orange in the fall to be visible to hunters.
Flora & Fauna
Aspen trees and some wildflowers.
