Runner Notes
A quick loop that can be added to a variety of other trails for a longer run. During busy summer days, this trail might be a bit crowded.
Description
This short loop trail from the Visitor Center is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the grassland ecosystem and formation of the dunes. With many interpretive signs and benches along the trail, this loop is a great opportunity to spend some time learning about the impressive landscape of the park before heading out to run the dunes.
Flora & Fauna
Mostly grasses, shrubs, and cacti such as rabbitbrush, prickly pear, and yucca.
Elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, rabbits, coyotes, kangaroo rats, bullsnakes, short-horned lizards, and a variety of birds such as hawks and vesper sparrows.
