Runner Notes

Early in the season (June - mid-July), you may come across downed trees on the trail and deep snow near the lake.

Description

This is a short but steady climb to Lower Sand Creek Lake, which is a spectacular mountain lake surrounded by spectacular mountain views.

Unless you plan to visit in the early spring, or late fall, the trail should be clear of obstacles. In the shoulder seasons, snow and tree fall can add challenges to visits on this trail. This is a great destination all on its own, or as a stop on the way to Upper Sand Creek Lake.

Flora & Fauna

Sand Creek (at the start) and Lower Sand Creek Lake (at the finish) are loaded with hybrid cutthroat trout. Definitely bring your fishing rod.
