Description
While pleasant on its own, the Wild Dog Trail is more of a connector trail to Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District (West). One can start the trail at the intersection of Golden Gate Road and Signal Hill Road (both are dirt roads). There is no trailhead parking. If you begin the trail from Golden Gate Rd and Signal Hill Rd, plan on parking in a pullout a little further away on Golden Gate Road or possibly at the Signal Hill Picnic area. Parking in either of these locations will require traveling a little extra distance down a road to get to the trailhead.
Once on the trail it will gently ascend for the first half mile or so. Along the way, enjoy views of Apache Peak to the east. The trail eventually reaches the high point, and then dips, passing the
Valley View Overlook Trail, and finally the
Bajada Wash Trail. The trail ends at the Valley View Trailhead.
There will be plenty of sun, and cacti along this trail, but you won't find much shade.
