Description
Pinniped Point is one of the better bluffs to spot harbor seals and sea lions as they bathe in the sun. The upper trail behind the buildings heads south and east, first passing a fuel building and then arriving at the Iceplant Water Tank.
To ensure the survival of native plant species, which were replanted after red-flowered iceplant was introduced and grew to outcompete the native species, this water tank building houses two 55,000-gallon tanks for fresh water. The water is brought by boat from the mainland and pumped up to the tanks from
Landing Cove.
A hundred yards past the water tank building is Pinniped Point, a beautiful south-facing bluff. Just past Pinniped Point is the Anacapa Campground and vault toilets, with access to the
Inspiration Point lollipop loop trail. To the north is
Cathedral Cove, another scenic bluff path that is often combined for a loop run.
