Description

This trail starts from the junction with Foothills Trail near Pine Spring Campground. As you head northeast, you'll gradually climb through the Chihuahuan Desert. The grade may feel a little steep at times but the view gets better with the elevation.

Almost one mile along this trail, you'll reach the apex as well as the junction with Bear Canyon Trail. From here, follow a gentle grade downhill to the junction with Smith Spring Trail. The trail isn't too difficult, but be ready for some loose rock on the surface; watch your footing.

The Frejole Trail is not a heavily trafficked trail making it a good place to find some solitude. It is most often used in conjunction with the Foothills Trail to make a nice loop.

There is no water along this trail and shade is scarce. Make sure you're prepared to run in the desert.

From the Frejole Trail, enjoy nice views looking out onto the highway that runs north and south near the Guadalupe Mountains.
