From Detweiler Junction, rise on a gentle grade on the former Reichley Bros. logging rail grade through Detweiler Run Natural Area. This area is full of virgin timber and huge rhododendrons along pretty Detweiler Run. One wonders why a logging railroad passes never-cut timber, and you may curse the native stone ballast the Reichley Brothers chose to use.

Nonetheless, cross a large pipeline swath and climb a little more through oaks and laurel, turn to descend to Penn-Roosevelt State Park. This small spot, reached only by gravel roads, began as a racially segregated camp S-62 in the CCC. Pass the face of the pretty dam they created on Standing Stone Creek, then climb steeply up an end of a Broad Mountain (not to be confused with the other Broad Mountain in the same township, on Greenwood Spur Standing Stone Trail). This allows you to wander for several km past dry campsites cut in the thickening mountain-laurel.

Eventually, you'll descend to meet a historic wagon road trace just before the 52-meter long, 1.8-meter vertical clearance culvert passage under US 322 expressway at the world's worst hitching spot just east of the summit of Seven Mountains Hill.

Abundant rhododendron beside Detweiler Run on the south end, thick mountain-laurel in other parts of the section.
