Just like it sounds, this trail goes up to a ridge overlooking the fort and then reconnects to the original trail you came in on. There is very little if any shade along the ridge. While not a long distance, the run up and down the ridge is on loose unstable rocks.

After visiting the ruins of Fort Bowie, you can return on the trail you came in on. Another option is the to take the Fort Bowie National Historic Site Trail.
