Description
On the west side of the Skyline Drive at the South River Overlook, mile 62.7, is the Dry Run Falls fire road which goes for about 2.0 miles to the park boundary.
Two items of interest along this fire road are Lost Cliffs and Dry Run Falls.
The Lost Cliffs are Greenstone that rise nearly 100 above the forest floor. You'll seen them to your right about 50 yards off the fire road. There's an unmarked footpath on the far end that will take you to the top. The cliffs are high enough above the forest cover to provide good views south and west.
The Dry Run Falls are located well off the fire road. There is no trail (you must bushwhack), but it is worth a side trip by experienced runners. About 1.8 miles from the start, the fire road makes a sharp turn to the right. After you complete the turn, the falls will be diagonally ahead and left, straight downhill, about an eighth of a mile away. If there's a good flow of water, you should be able to hear the falls from the fire road.
