This is a moderately sloped trail that meanders through the woods surrounding Pilot Mountain to the summit. Start the trail across the road from the park office. As you're crossing the road, the trail leads off to the right. The trail then continues up through the woods to a stone building where you'll cross the main park road and head out towards the family campground.

After reaching the campground, the trail continues up the mountain through the woods to the summit. The trail will reach a junction with the Mountain Trail at 1.4 miles. Continue to follow the blue circle blazes up the mountain. Next the trail joins with the yellow blazed Ledge Springs Trail. Make sure to follow the fork to the left at the trail junction and continue up to the summit following the same path for the last 0.25 mile.
