Need to Know

The nearest restroom facilities and water can be found at the visitor center as the Mammoth Lodge is currently closed since it is under renovation.

Description

The Heritage Trail is an ADA accessible trail that starts at the visitor center and leads to sunset point. It is a lollipop loop that makes it easy to get back to where you start. From the visitor center, cross the bridge over the path to the natural entrance and approach the Mammoth Cave Lodge. Take a right when you get one the bridge and follow the boardwalk to the right as it runs along the edge of the ridge and passes the Old Guides Trail. The trail is either paved or a wooden deck for its entirety, making it an easy trail for families and those needing easier trails to experience. It passes the the Sunset Terrace Rooms and the trail to the Old Guides Cemetery which sit on the left of the trail as it enters the woods. The trail emerges at Sunset Point, where you can enjoy views over the Green River and the surrounding hills. There is a bench at Sunset point where you can sit and enjoy the views. The trail wraps around the ridge and passes the Sinkhole Trail which breaks off to the right before arriving back to the junction with the Old Guides' Cemetery Trail/ From here, you simply retrace your steps back to the visitor center where you left your car.

For those not wanting to walk to Sunset Point from the visitor center, you can drive out to where the Sunset Terrace Rooms are, park there, and hike out to Sunset Point to view the sunset if you need a shorter trail.
