Description
Travel along the Ridgeline Trail to experience damp hemlock ravines, extensive mixed hardwood forests, and vernal wetlands teeming with amphibian life.
Starting at the trailhead behind Cabin One, run along moderately graded rolling hills through multiple different ecosystems. Along the trail, keep your eyes peeled for the crumbling remains of a once vibrant farm in the form of a hip-high stone wall and stacked-rock chimney.
Continuing along the trail, watch for signs of seasonal wetlands, also known as vernal pools. These pools are important habitats for local amphibians, and as such are often chocked full of tadpoles, frogs, and all of the various stages in between.
Follow the yellow blazes along the trail, paying special attention at trail junctions, as the
Scenic Gorge Trail branches off in multiple places.
Flora & Fauna
White oak and shagbark hickory are abundant along the trail.
