Overview

This route offers great views from Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man looking over the lakes of the lake district. It's a popular walking route but great for a short run as well. If it's a hot enough day then a brief swim in the tarn is always nice.

Runner Notes

Exposed and often windy on top.

Description

Start off on gravel track of the Walnar Scar Road from the car park. The slow incline soon becomes steep as you head to the summit of Dow Crag. The top of Dow Crag has great views on the surrounding lake district but is exposed and often windy on top.

From the summit, you descend a little before heading back up to the top of Coniston Old Man which again has great views. The descent to the car park from Coniston Old Man is very steep and can be slippy in wet conditions.

Flora & Fauna

Ravens can be seen from the top.
